I initially came in wanting to pick Giagos after hearing how confident he is due to his camp change, but ended up going the other way after watching the tape and seeing how much the American tends to get stung in fights. Summary: Serving as a lightweight offering that would’ve slotted perfectly as the opener is an intriguing matchup between Thiago Moises and Christos Giagos. Nevertheless, I’m not sure how much Nurmagomedov will be wanting to stand with a dangerous boxer like Maness, who carries both power and size parity.įor that reason, I suspect that Nurmagomedov plays it smart and sticks to “father’s plan,” scoring a first-round submission win in the process. In Nurmagomedov’s defense, the young bantamweight looks to be even more well-rounded than his cousin, demonstrating devastating kicks from both stances. Summary: In what should be another solid offering at 135 pounds, Nate Maness takes on the highly touted Umar Nurmagomedov.Īlthough the betting line is too wide for my liking, I can’t say that I’m surprised to see this much support come in for a combat sambo world champion who is related to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

I’ll pick Curtis to survive the initial submission storms with his underrated counter wrestling and scrambling in order to secure the knockout in the second round. That said, the American southpaw is likely in for a difficult first round given the style and sensibilities of Vieira inside of the smaller cage. Summary: Continuing the UFC matchmaker’s recent theme of kicking off main cards in the middleweight division is a fairly straightforward fight between Chris Curtis and Rodolfo Vieira.Īlthough part of me was surprised to see Curtis open as the favorite, I was happy to see “The Action Man” get some deserved respect.

Both fighters connect in some fun give-and-take action as the clock ticks down from 10 seconds to zero. Pascual shoots again and grabs double under-hooks. She feeds Pascual an uppercut as Pascual slowly moves in for a telegraphed takedown. She’s having the most success of the fight. After a brief struggle, she absorbs a combo. Edwards maintains balance, stays upright, and breaks away. Edwards comes out with a few quick leg kicks. The bottom line is that neither fighter should feel comfortable here. So I’ve scored it 20-18, but it could be tied up 19-19. Edwards shoves her off and the round ends. This one is different than the rest, however, as Pascual catches it and takes her down. Edwards throws a push kick, one of many she’s thrown this fight. Edwards keeps tapping Pascual with body and leg kicks. Edwards looks like she’s gained a little bit more energy, but Pascual feeds her a cracking combination. Edwards reverses position and they separate. Pascual is driving Edwards into the cage. She eats a knee as she grabs at the air in a clinch attempts. Oh! And right on cue she lands a wild combination. She needs to figure out some offense here.

She doesn’t have the most speed, but she looks a step ahead of Edwards. Pascual didn’t appear too hurt by those, but she was on the retreat and getting beaned in the dome isn’t where you want to be. The fight begins and Edwards finds early success with a striking blitz. Round 1 – Bruce Buffer belts out SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE and his first fighter introductions and we’re underway.
